Hey, people...
The last time the top 1% of American earners took home 20%
of the total national income was 1928. After that the economy
caved in.
As in the Crash of '29 and the Great Depression!!!!!
We can't even "fix" the problem without being even more greedy.
$720 billion was too much....they voted no. But lets add another
$160 in "congressional earmarks"...sugar coated ham; ie. pork,
and get the no voters to vote yes on an even bigger bailout!
Ta Da. And the following Monday the DOW drops another 500
points and sinks below 10,000.
We look away, condone and tolerate this. As a nation we deserve
everything that is about to happen to us.
Does the name Rome mean anything to anyone?
but, that's just me.

News...what news?
Hey, people...
I don't know if anyone is as disillusioned, despondent or just plain
disgusted as I am at the state of network coverage regarding the
"cluster-fuck to the white house/poorhouse" but if you are...I have
a suggestion.
Since things will often degenerate to the point where eventually it's
the same energy if you're crying or laughing... I vote for laughter.
Fox News is a joke. The "fair and balanced" talking heads at Fox
are an embarrassment to journalism around the world. Sean Hannity,
and his minions are destined for one of Dante's "circles of hell". He
needs to meet a pack of "diamond dogs" in a dark alley.
CNN, in an effort to compete with Fox, has itself deteriorated into
utter shame. It started with "all Anna Nicole, all the time". Headline
News is now "court tv" and "where's Caley?" and ought to be called
"The Nancy Grace Network".
I would give anything to see a prehistoric pterodactyl swoop into the
studio, on camera, and carry that "harpy" off to feed to it's offspring.
Now that I've outlined my level of derision for the state of network
news.....let me add if you really want to watch the chronicle of the
fall of the "New Roman Empire" (you think I'm kidding, do some
homework). Comedy Central has allowed 2 of the smartest guys
I've ever seen on TV to show it to you.
"The Daily Show with John Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" are
now almost the only "news" show I watch. They are showing you
events and people that you will not get on "Network News". There
is a reason they are winning Emmy's, people. They are smart,
witty, acerbic, sardonic and thoroughly entertaining. You will learn
stuff you will not get told about anywhere else and it's all cloaked
within humor and satire. And, by the gods, it works.
I was not always a fan...I ignored them for years. But as a published
journalist (ok...a few decades ago) I can't tell you how much I have
appreciated being shown that true journalism, political reporting and
the ability to cast a critical eye on the national zeitgeist have not
been forgotten.
If you don't believe me watch just one episode...you can catch last
night's "John Stewart" tonight at 8pm on Comedy Central...or maybe
stream it live off the Internet.
Anarchy is rearing it's hungry head and these guys are reporting it.
Seriously... .I'm having fun watching everything auger in. Join me
and we can all fiddle while Rome burns. Live like an Emperor, while
you still can. At least you'll enjoy the ride.
And, to quote Hudson in "Aliens" "
...express elevator to hell, going down".
